Emirates Palace, the most lavish hotel in the UAE capital, says it regrets erecting the tree in its foyer.A luxury Abu Dhabi hotel says it regrets erecting an elaborate Christmas tree decorated with $11 million worth of jewellery in its foyer. Billed as the most expensive Christmas tree in the world, the fake article was decorated with gems and jewellery worth $11 million. The Abu Dhabi hotel Emirates Palace, the most lavish hotel in the Gulf, insists it did not create or buy the tree, but was displaying it only – a move it now regrets. A statement from the hotel said it regretted “attempts to overload the tradition” by dressing the 13-metre tree with gold, diamonds, rubies and other gems. “The hotel is just a venue for exhibiting the tree”, the statement said. “Putting the Christmas tree up is not a novelty, rather it is a tradition meant to share in celebrating occasions guests hold while they are away from their home countries and families.”
